"The Living Water" The conversation that Jesus had with the Samaritan woman
at the well has always struck me as particularly significant and fascinating,
as well as very down-to-earth. First, Jews had no dealings with Samaritans, who
were considered "half-breeds" by the Jews. Second, speaking
to a woman especially one who was known to have a "reputation"
was a big taboo for a male Jew in the first century. Jesus was unconcerned
about cultural taboos, tradition, or for that matter, his own reputation.
He was concerned about the lost. He came to seek and to save the lost.
The vessels in the picture represent all the various kinds of people
who receive the living water. The red intermingled with the gushing
cascade symbolizes the blood of Christ. At the last supper, He said,
"Drink from it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins."
